ASSOCIATE EDITOR, NPR MUSIC – APRIL 2017 – AUGUST 2017 | Co-managed the launch of a new NPR Music project entitled Turning the Tables, out July 2017, that subverted the traditional canon of music history by highlighting the 150 best albums made by women in the 20th and 21st centuries. Edited features and essays, as well as conceptualizing radio pieces surrounding the project’s launch. Spoke on a panel at the Lincoln Center in late July 2017 following the list’s release.
ASSOCIATE EDITOR, RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY | NEW YORK, NY — MARCH 2016 — OCTOBER 2017 | Associate Editor for Red Bull Music Academy's immersive online culture publication, the Daily. Brainstormed, commissioned and edited pieces from writers, illustrators, designers, photographers and artists tied to RBMA event series in New York City, Montréal and beyond. Managed editorial calendar and assisted with researching documentaries, including one about the ill-fated '70s promotional stunt Disco Demolition Night.
ARTS & CULTURE REPORTER, NEWSWEEK | NEW YORK, NY — JULY 2014 – MARCH 2016 | Consistently led monthly web traffic on a team of 15 writers. Juggled pitching, reporting, writing and fact-checking daily web and longer print features centered on leading T.V., music, film, food and other oddities in the zeitgeist. Wrote acclaimed print profiles of notable cultural figures, including actors Gillian Anderson and Isabella Rossellini, and the hip-hop duo Run the Jewels. Multitasker extraordinaire for Newsweek's weekend edition, juggling roles as a producer and writer of 3-5 breaking news stories while simultaneously managing social media accounts. Traveled to Los Angeles and reported on a behind-the-scenes feature on the popular singing competition show The Voice, and covered the 2014 Art Basel Miami Beach. NEW YORK MAGAZINE - JULY 2015 - PRESENT | Write film and music-centered features for New York Magazine's online imprint, Vulture. Wrote the lead culture feature in the September 4th issue of New York Magazine, about the bachata king Romeo Santos.
THE NEW YORK TIMES – MARCH 2015 – PRESENT | Write artist profiles for The New York Times style magazine, T, notably a piece about Chromatics' Johnny Jewel and the electronic duo OOFJ. Write weekly Pop & Rock listings for Friday’s newspaper.
ROLLING STONE – NOVEMBER 2013 – PRESENT | Write original music, film and politics features for Rolling Stone online, including profiles of Halsey, Sheer Mag and Mitski, and a feature about the state of DIY following Oakland’s Ghost Ship fire.
